Textile objects

a unique character.

 

Marja starts her artistic journey in the beginning of the 70’s with being taught weaving, and shortly afterwards, teaching the technique herself. To weave, she uses rayon-nets, which she has managed to acquire via a local store of Albert Heijn. Alongside being innovative using nets, she also uses PVC-pipes which add even more dimensionality.

Winter in Santo

Domingo

This work owes its name to the crystal buttons I found in Santo Domingo, in a beautiful store full of shiny jewelry, pins and buttons. Together with my friend Pilar, who was born there. Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, a beautiful old city. The oldest city in the new world where everyone drives through red. Even an experienced Amsterdam taxi driver does not sit relaxed in his

car there.
