Preservation technique

Ever since, when she started using weaving techniques, Marja has been incorporating natural materials like tree bark. New ideas arose because of a tree (Araucaria?) in Jan Thiel, Curaçao, which was continually shedding pieces of bark. A lot of experimentation was done to find out which preservation technique best suited the application of the bark on panels. Eventually she settled on using varnish to preserve and harden the pieces. By using them she can add an additional expressive and three dimensional touch to her work.
